One of the ways to train dogs well is to do it with a reward. If you give him the command to ‘sit’, ‘stay’ or ‘come’, for instance, when he obediently follows them, you immediately praise him at that point.
Below we suggest 3 times when you should reward your dog:
Before you leave home:
Dogs tend to get a little sad when we leave home, so one way to associate your absence with something positive is to give them a treat.. This action only applies to dogs that DO NOT suffer from separation anxiety.
When it’s quiet:
When your dog is calmly lying on his bed or next to you, give him lots of petting and also a treat to indicate something like “I didn’t order it, but I love it when you have this attitude.”
To spoil them
A good time can be between meals, either mid-morning or mid-afternoon. Go up to him, tell him you love him, and give him a treat or two. If your dog is one of those who likes to sniff and find things, you can even hide it in a pocket and let him find it, so in addition to spoiling him you will be playing with him.
